Joan Davis
President and CEO

joanJoan Davis is an experienced executive in managing complex public and private nonprofit organizations – both local and national in scope. She was most recently the Director for the North Bay region of the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern CA/Northern NV and had oversight for programs and services to families impacted by the disease.

Prior to that position, Ms. Davis was CEO of Satellite Housing, Inc - a nonprofit housing development corporation based in Berkeley, CA that developed, owned and managed affordable housing with coordinated supportive services.

Before moving to California in 2001, Ms. Davis lived in Kansas City, MO and worked in the areas of nonprofit management, law and public service – including service as Regional Director for Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation and Community Builder with the US Department of HUD.

Ms. Davis is a native of Omaha, NE and is a graduate of the University of Nebraska where she completed both a BS degree in Psychology/History and a Juris Doctorate degree. Ms. Davis attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and completed an Executive Fellowship program in Community Building.

Ms. Davis is a resident of Richmond, CA.

 

 

Jim Becker
Vice President of Development and Program Services

Jim Becker attended Grinnell College for his BA and University of Minnesota for his MA in Anthropology. He served as a senior program director for the Minneapolis YMCA. He moved to California in 1990 to serve as the Executive Director of the new Delta Family YMCA in Oakley, CA.

In 1991, he joined Delta 2000 and served as its Executive Director until 1996. While at Delta 2000, he led several community initiatives including the establishment of the Village Drive Resource Center and the conversion of the old Antioch Police Station into a vibrant community services building.

In 1996, he joined the Center for Human Development as its CEO, and led the organization to significant growth and national recognition for its work in community health services. He chaired the Contra Costa Tobacco Prevention Task Force which wrote the first county smoke free work place ordinances in the United States. He led the Family Preservation and Support Collaborative in North Richmond, which resulted in successful integration of county and nonprofit services. At the request of Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher, he served on a children’s services panel with First Lady Hilary Clinton, and also served on the State Advisory Board for Child Development and Home Instruction with California First Lady Sharon Davis.

He joined Housing California, the State Association for Housing and Homeless Services, to serve as its Executive Director in 2001. After several years, the desire to work closer to home, and to truly engage community members in neighborhood transformation brought him the Richmond Community Foundation.

 

 

Monica Boyd
Program Officer

MonicaInspired by her mother’s commitment to service, Monica Boyd began her community work with the Feeding Ministry at her church, cooking free meals for families in Sobrante Park, Oakland, California.  After working in the corporate world for many years, she began volunteering as the school librarian at her daughter’s school.  One day, she came across a flyer for the AmeriCorps program, and she has been dedicated to service ever since.  AmeriCorps placed her with the Richmond Community Foundation where she worked with the Nystrom United Revitalization Project (NURVE).  The Foundation was so impressed by her organizing skills that she was hired to serve as the Program Associate for NURVE.

Ms. Boyd has lived and worked in our community for over 9 years.  She is a single mother of three wonderful children.  Her oldest son is an accomplished singer/vocalist; her second son is the Senior Class President at El Cerrito High School; and her daughter is following in mom’s footsteps as her number one volunteer.  When she is not working, Ms. Boyd enjoys singing.

Michelle Poehlman
Development Associate

Michelle Poehlman received her Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences, focusing on Criminal Justice, and also received her Minor in Psychology California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA.  She began her work with children at a North Bay Athletic Club in the Children’s Services Department, and shortly thereafter began work as a Grant Writing Assistant at Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children in San Luis Obispo County. Motivated by the positive feelings of serving the community, Ms. Poehlman interned at the Boys and Girls Club of Central Sonoma County.  As part of the team at the Richmond Community Foundation, she finds pride in being a part of an organization that brings so much hope and strength to the Richmond community. 

Lucretia Bobo
Farm 2 Table Coordinator

Lucretia Bobo always wanted to serve in the community and help people. She is part of the Foundation's AmeriCorps team and is committed to helping local children and families develop healthy lifestyles through access to fresh fruits and vegetables and other programs. A long time resident of the Nystrom neighborhood, she is excited about her work and its impact on the community.
